Lately I’ve been having some discussions with friends and family about value… of cardboard.

I was born a little too early to grow up watching Pokemon, or perhaps South Korea didn’t broadcast those shows. I do however remember religiously gathering baseball and hockey cards during my youth in Minnesota and Canada. It just… felt good as I filled up my binder. I remember proudly showing them off to a bunch of old kids in my neighborhood. Yari Curry was my favorite player back then.

But as time moved along with lightspeed. I’d long forgotten those activities, but lately have been having fun watching Pokemon cards exchange hands via barter fast and furious. It’s almost refreshing, watching a quick exchange of details, negotiations, and then up to tens of thousands of dollars swap hands just like that. And now other IP’s I’m pretty familiar with, such as One Piece, Gundam, Riftbount, and perhaps the largest of them all, Disney have all launched into this area.

To be sure, is this entire thing built on gambling aka ripping packs? Absolutely. So I don’t really have something I want to say here, and I have no idea where those will be going, and an abundance of caution is no doubt needed. But still there’s something fun watching these quick and fast negotiations.
